Customer personalisation is becoming more and more popular and the flavoured syrup trend is a hot topic to dive into. The Global market research company IMARC predicts a 4% growth in the flavoured syrup market by 2025.
What the market says
You don’t have to travel far for coffee these days and you certainly have more choice than ever to personalise your caffeinated beverage. And it’s not just gingerbread lattes in the winter months or a caramel iced coffee in the summer, they are now available all year round in a multitude of classic and new, innovative drinks.
The Allegra Project Café 2021 report states that caramel syrup was the most popular syrup choice in hot coffee, with 42.7% of consumers picking this as their favourite. The below shows the top five in order of consumer preference:

The iced coffee results from Allegra show the below results for preferred flavours. Caramel again came in as top choice with over 50% of consumers picking as their favourite flavour.

The Allegra Project Café 2021 report also tells us that 17.2% of consumers prefer to customise their coffee with flavoured syrup, closely followed by 17% who choose brown sugar. With syrup flavours becoming increasingly available, this opens up the opportunity for interesting seasonal promotions to take place, offering the customer a variety of new choice for them to try. It also allows you to broaden the coffee menu you offer by adding a few new syrups.
Mix up the syrup offering in your business
With the growing demand for a sweet temptation, it’s important that retailers offer a wide range of flavoured syrups to allow for a fully customisable experience.
The Allegra Project Café 2021 report states 33% of consumers would be open to a fully automated coffee shop experience, those against the idea, appreciate the role of the barista and being able to personalise their drinks.
